I wish I had read the reviews before I did. It is an EXTREMELY tedious read that will have you wishing you could slap some common sense into Shannon Bowen and not just for the repetitious page-filling sentences. She hears child abuse on an esculating scale for months, that police won't investigate, that to drown it out she has to keep 3 fans AND an air-confitioner and she doesn't think to record it as proof She is so naive that she doesn't recognise a drug dealer and just wonders why he is always shaking hands when greeting people and saying good-bye a few minutes later, calls potential track marks on someone's arm 'odd tattoos'. They live next door to each other, yet she can use the peephole in her door to see into their doorway The abuse is so bad that it distracts her from working on her book (her first publishef book I can find is ABOUT Kevin) yet she doesn't think to report it to higher authorities. All these things and other peculiar moments happen in the first 15% of the kindle edition. ArguelloThe story in general is sad and relatively interesting. But the author makes herself seem like a nosy and meddling person, who finds fault in all her neighbors and everything they do. For instance, making it a point that her neighbors car didn't have a rear view mirror, or the fact that the neighbor in the basement apartment didn't have much furniture. THat's completely irrelevant to the purpose of the story. And it makes her come off as a rather nosy and annoying neighbor. It's repetition is almost nauseating. After reading a good portion of this book I feel like I've gotten absolutely nothing from it. The author hears abuse and always makes an excuse for what she's hearing.
