LabowitzThe book itself is well written and has lots of good information to help get my projects done. Data bases can solve a lot of data problems for me.The book is physically hard to read, but that seems to be the norm for computer books. Why can't they break books apart into smaller sections and box them or wrap them as a unit Carrying this "suitcase of knowledge" around and holding it to read is awkward and annoying. Thank goodness it had the disc with it. At least I can upload it to the PC and read it on a smaller device. Still not perfect, but a little bit better. By switching back and forth between windows I can read a bit, and then try it on my PC without a two inch book on the desk (which refuses to stay open without a weight on it).TIP: You need to get a book like this if you will continue to use an older system like this but don't buy one of these computer books without the disc. CulpepperI departed from the books on Access that I've had since Access '97 (all of them written by Roger Jennings) and bought this one. It was a mistake as this is not as rigorous and clear as his. That said, it is not a bad book. It's loaded with information, and the layout is ok (I think the section on SQL should come before VBA, and before any 'Advanced' section). It does have the full text on CD as a pdf book and that's good because it can stay at home and on my office hard drive for reference. Some of the sections, such as SQL and Advanced Forms could be more thorough and better organized. I'd prefer to give it 3 1/2 stars, but tried to be lenient as it is a good purchase price.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful.Only for the experiencedBy Donald R. RamseyThis book is not for the novice user. I know a little about programming and am barely able to stumble through the programming sections. An example is the scope of variables. I'm familiar with most variable types but not "static". All others are defined (public, private, dim, etc) but not static. There is mention of static but little real information.This was written when the product was in beta test and it shows. The examples seem to be of screen shots and the type size is about 4 point. Better have a magnifing glass to read. There are many typos and the explanation of a sub may not always follow the example.Both the experienced user and the novice would be better served by another book.See all 40 customer reviews...
