She becomes obsessed with it and begins wanting to engage in rape fantasy role play. Even though the thought of rape fantasy entices and thrills her she immediately feels shame and guilt after. One fateful night she meets Jonah and their story begins. Can Jonah give Vivienne what she needs Will the truth break them or bring them closer together I like how the author educates the reader on rape fantasy and how Vivienne's fantasies are common. I like how Jonah engages and treats Vivienne. He is never a monster even during play he is sure not to cross the line. He is incredibly gentle with her after play. He doesn't prey upon her like a monster but instead fulfills what she believes is her greatest need. At the end you learn about Jonah's past and it's horrific. The end leaves you aching yet understanding of where Jonah and Vivienne are. Thankfully the sequel is available for purchase. This doesn't end in a cliffhanger nor in a HEA.The writing is clear, creates a picture and the story is easy to follow. There are several side characters that give some lightness to what can be a heavy plot line. Because this book involves rape fantasy it will not be for everyone. If you have triggers regarding rape then please consider reading something else. Overall, I enjoyed this book, it captured my attention and I learned something. 4 beautifully tragic stars.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Nestled in a Book's Review of Asking for ItBy TaraDeeply intriguing and thought provoking, Asking for It is a new twist on a taboo romance that will have you questioning how you feel about everything.I have a pretty jam packed reading schedule right now and I had no intention of reading this book frankly just because it wasn’t even on my radar. I had not even heard of it, at least until a good friend of my messaged me going on and on about how much she was loving it. I read the synopsis and I was hooked! It was all I could think about and as soon as I was done with the book I was reading at the time, I one-clicked this baby and dove right in.I’ll be honest; I was a little bit scared. Rape is a sensitive subject and not one that I can usually stomach but I was assured that the story goes down a path that makes it “okay”. At least as okay as rape and rape fantasy can be. And they were right.I think that some people will definitely have a problem with this book, and for some it will definitely be a trigger and I strongly discourage it in that instance but otherwise, I totally recommend this book. Now, here’s the thing, I’ve never been raped. Never even been close so I cannot even fathom what that must be like. I have no idea how a rape victim thinks, processes, and copes. For all I know, this book is a completely off base in that aspect but I do know that we all cope with tragedies in different ways. The way that Lilah Pace portrays Vivienne, her experience, and the way she rationalizes things in her head comes off across as very genuine and believable. The only reason that I think I was able to digest this story is because even though the fantasies revolve around non-consensual sex, everything is consensual (with one exception) and done in a way that’s safe.I really liked Vivienne and related to her and sympathized with her story. Jonah was also very likeable, though in the beginning I’ll admit he scared me a bit. He comes across as very dark and dangerous to start with.I am surprised by how much I liked this book and how much I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. It was off-the-charts-hot, surprisingly emotionally charged, and does a great job of causing conflicting emotions. Take a chance on this one!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Intense and interestingBy MichelleI was completely riveted by this book the whole way through. For Vivienne, having fantasies of sexual coercion embarrasses her with endless shame, but it's what she wants more than anything and can't have it any other way. Jonah, a professor whom Vivienne meets one evening and incidentally crosses paths with again later, proposes an arrangement that allows them both to indulge in this fantasy. Jonah wants to be a participating partner just as much as Vivienne does. While they have shared a very intimate part of themselves when they engage in these acts, they shut the rest of themselves off to each other because love doesn't even factor into the equation. Keeping distance as strangers is what maintains this arrangement. It's simply about them acting out their deepest desires. Wow, the scenes of them acting out these performances portray just how realistic their role playing is in the moment, but it was hot, too. Jonah never intends to hurt Vivienne. There's some interesting points about this plot. For starters, is there something really wrong with Vivienne and Jonah to want this because they are both hard pressed to find other willing partners who would entertain such an idea I never considered either of them to be abnormal or deranged in any way at all because they were consenting adults in every aspect. If anything, the fantasy only made me more curious about delving deeper into both of their psyches. They are both intelligent, professional people who have their own personal issues that empowers them when they do this act, they are just unaware of the other person's secrets. Vivienne actually sees a therapist, Doreen, and the scenes with Doreen are very insightful about Vivienne's character. The theme of duality is constantly in motion, Vivienne's complete trust and submission to Jonah's power and dominance. How Jonah is so forceful while in the moment, but very gentle and tender afterwards. They have no problems improvising in their roles, but struggle with basic conversation. The way they know something so deeply personal about one another that no one else knows, yet they know very little about the general things about the other. How Vivienne gives everything of herself except her heart and how Jonah demands complete submission but factors in safety and boundaries. Both Vivienne and Jonah captured my complete attention and tugged at my heart as more layers of themselves unraveled. Vivienne is very strong mentally, she is not whiny or overly demanding or dramatic at all, she has a real grace about her that is impossible not to be drawn into. She's also relatable and compassionate, she struggles a lot with her thoughts but is mature about confronting them, too. Jonah is very reserved and impassive overall, but puts in 100% effort at everything he does. He's not a jerk, but he's very masculine, direct and guarded. He doesn't cater to other people, but he will make slight concessions, especially for Vivienne. Control is very important to him, but not in an overbearing way, more like he values his privacy above all else.Trying to blend their fantasy world with reality winds up being more challenging than expected. Discovering more about each other personally as feelings slowly filter through begins to blur the lines of their roles vs their relationship. The complexity and depth of these characters is very well written. While the subject matter isn't necessarily for everyone, I would still suggest reading this unless there's a trigger because I was completely immersed in finding out how Vivienne and Jonah navigate outside of their role playing bubble and if they could both break out of their shells with one another. They are a very functional duo, but emotional communication doesn't come easy for them and knowing the truth about each other could be a game changer because of the impact. While it's impossible to compare whose past is more tragic or heartbreaking, I want to see them both liberated from those burdens. I am very anxious to read the next book.See all 150 customer reviews...
