Sure she had to get captured and put in the white tower to do it but finally her story arc is way more interesting. - Nynaeve and Lan finally getting a little relationship fleshing out and one of my favorite moments of the series. Way to go all Aes Sedea on your man Nynaeve. This is probably the only time I will approve of such a move. - Avienda cutting strings from Elayne. Maybe it will be her turn with Rand again soon. - Rand outing another of the Forsaken. The price might be a little heavy but he just keeps on swimming. Actually I love him and Min together, she seems to get him better than anyone else and I love how in her own way she is just as strong or actually stronger than him. (view spoiler) - Mat and Tuon playing courting games that seem more like battle strategy I LOVE THEM SO MUCH TOGETHER - Thom finally telling us what is in that letter that Moraince left for him how many books ago. Well we get to read it AND I’m so excited about where that is going to lead our crew. - The Elayne the Daughter Heir finally finding her place. Whether it is on the Lion throne or not you will just have to read to see. Her arc is actually my least favorite maybe because so much time is spent on the pregnancy and sometimes she is so smart and THEN she does that very stupid thing towards the end that just leads me to believe she isn’t even close to ready to be a Queen. - Birgetta being awesome as always. Why would we need Galad or Gawyn again to protect Elayne I just don’t know. I’m pretty sure I know who Gaidal Cain is reincarnated as *crosses fingers* that is my favorite deviant in training (view spoiler)And Much Much more…. A few characters get the comeuppances that they deserve and it is so gratifying.Was it worth going through three pretty slow books to get to some awesome The jury is still out. For me yeah probably since Sanderson is finishing out this series and I read ~200 books a year so no biggy. But for someone else who doesn’t get to read so much and has to pick and choose probably not unless you are into extreme worldbuilding.Very excited to start the into the end with my favorite Epic Fantasy Writer the fantastic Brandon Sanderson.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.22 Sniffs LaterBy Greg PolanskyKnife of Dreams is a return to fine form for Jordan. Multiple plots are moved forward in this book, leaving the reader feeling satisfied by the end of the bok. Still, it's not as good as when the Aiel were a large part of the books.A plurality of the book focuses on Mat's continuing journey away from Ebou Dar into Altara. There's quite a bit that goes on here, but the good part is that Moiraine's letter to Thom is finally shared with Mat, setting up some later events. How much later Two books. Jordan always did have a problem with pacing. Still, the Mat sections in this book have battles and assorted other interesting tidbits. And the Mat section also has a resolution to the Mat/Tuon pairing, including an interesting denouement that involves Semirhage and Suroth.The Elayne section also sees serious resolutions of a few plots. Thankfully. All the diplomatic maneuvering was getting old fast. You'll be happy that the plots were moved forward and satisfied by the resolutions. Plus its discovered that Aviendha can identify ter'angreal - including an awesome one that is a depository of books. This should help the society of Randland.The Perrin/Faile section is finally resolved too. Joy.The Rand section is some of the best of the book. It involves awesome battles with Trollocs as well as an encounter with Semirhage.And for me, the Egwene section was the highlight. Captured by the White Tower Aes Sedai, Egwene is forced into novice white in the Tower. From within, she works to see Elaida deposed.And then another third of the book was told from other peoples' points of view.Jordan upped his sniff count. 22 for this one and Nynaeve finally hit the 50 mark. All of the many critical flaws in Jordan's story composition and portrayal of psychology and gender dynamics permeate the book. However he did, at least, evidently attempt to write a good book in this eleventh instalment of the waste- ahem- wheel of time series. There are flashes of brilliance in his battle scenes and in the convoluted ways in which seemingly disparate events coalesce into a single prophesied outcome. Unfortunately, the extremely irritating portrayal of femininity as a kind of mental illness that precludes objective, rational thought and of masculinity as that which blindly submits to it are still present. Although this fatal flaw is not necessarily the dominant theme of the book (as it was in Crossroads of Twilight) it was consistent enough to regularly revive the same attitude of disgust and anger that any experienced and well adjusted reader would have formed in response to his previous failures. This effect destroys a sophisticated readers ability to maintain suspension of disbelief and discourages them from fully immersing in the writing (even though it is sometimes very good indeed). the problem is so extreme that I must regretfully say that redemption of the series was only possible at the hands of a more competent writer who lacked Jordan's pathological obsession with male chauvinism, spanking, breasts, etc. I look forward to reading the books that were published after Jordan's timely demise.See all 904 customer reviews...
